Synopsis

"Everyone gets old. Not everyone grows up."

Mavis Gary (Charlize Theron) is recently divorced and an author of teen novels who decides to return to her roots and travels back to her small hometown to relive her glory days. She is also intending to attempt to reclaim her happily married high school sweetheart Buddy Slade (Patrick Wilson).

However, when returning home proves more difficult than she thought, Mavis forms an unusual bond with a former classmate, Matt Freehauf (Patton Oswalt) who hasn't quite gotten over high school, either.
