Synopsis
"Hi, my name is Frank,
I'm an alcoholic,
I kill people for a living.
This is anonymous, right?"
Frank Falenczyk (Ben Kingsley) is the hit man for a Polish mob family who live in Buffalo, New York. An alcoholic, his drinking is his undoing when a crucial assignment backfires on him through his own shortcomings.
His uncle Roman Krzeminski (Philip Baker Hall) moves him south to San Francisco to dry out and he starts attending AA meetings. There he meets Tom (Luke Wilson), who becomes his sponsor and also finds a job at a mortuary where he falls for a tart-tongued co-worker, Laurel Pearson (Tea Leoni).
In his absence an Irish gang is moving in on the family business and as it erupts into violence Frank is summoned back to Buffalo with the unlikely assistance of Laurel, who seems dangerously devoid of boundaries.
