Synopsis

When Sgt Howie (Edward Woodward) receives an anonymous letter that suggests a missing girl has been murdered. Howie leaves Scotland Yard and travels to Summerisle. This privately owned island just off the English coast is ruled by a self-styled religious leader Lord Summerisle (Christopher Lee).

When Howie meets Lord Summerisle he seems amused by Sgt Howie's claims. Not only that but the locals all avoid him and are generally unhelpful. Howie instinctively knows all is not what it seems and instigates his own investigation to get to the bottom of the mystery.
