Synopsis
A suspenseful and gripping psychological thriller, Lynne Ramsay's WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN explores the factious relationship between a mother and her son. Tilda Swinton, in a bracing, tour-de-force performance, plays the mother, Eva, as she contends for 15 years with the increasing malevolence of her first-born child, Kevin (Ezra Miller).
Eva put her ambitions and career aside to give birth to Kevin, yet the relationship between mother and son is difficult from the very first years. When Kevin is 15, he does something irrational and unforgivable in the eyes of the entire community. Eva grapples with her own feelings of grief and responsibility. Did she ever love her son? And how much of what Kevin did was her fault?
Based on the best-selling novel of the same name, WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN explores nature vs. nurture on a whole new level as Eva's own culpability is measured against Kevin's innate evilness. Ramsay's masterful storytelling simultaneously combines a provocative moral ambiguity with a satisfying and compelling narrative, which builds to a chilling, unforgettable climax.
WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN, directed by Lynne Ramsay, had a highly acclaimed World Premiere at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival. Academy Award® winner Tilda Swinton (I AM LOVE, MICHAEL CLAYTON) stars alongside Academy Award® nominee John C Reilly (CHICAGO) and Ezra Miller (TV's CALIFORNICATION). BAFTA winner Lynne Ramsay (RATCATCHER, MORVERN CALLAR) and Rory Stewart Kinnear wrote the script, based on Lionel Shriver's novel of the same name, the Winner of the Orange Prize for Fiction. Seamus McGarvey is the Director of Photography and the music score is by Jonny Greenwood.
