Synopsis

Inspired by Slavomir Rawicz's acclaimed novel, "The Long Walk: The True Story of a Trek to Freedom" as well as other real life accounts, THE WAY BACK is directed by six time Oscar nominated Peter Weir (WITNESS, MASTER AND COMMANDER and DEAD POET'S SOCIETY). It is a remarkable adventure story chronicling the escape of a small group of multi-national prisoners from a Siberian gulag in 1940 and their epic life affirming journey over thousands of miles across five hostile countries.

A heroic story of survival, solidarity and indomitable human will THE WAY BACK was shot in Bulgaria, Morocco and India, and stars Jim Sturgess (ACROSS THE UNIVERSE, THE OTHER BOLEYN GIRL), Ed Harris (APPALOOSA) and Colin Farrell (IN BRUGES) as prisoners of a Soviet Union labour camp, who, along with four others, flee their Siberian Gulag and begin a treacherous journey across thousands of miles of hostile terrain.

Academy Award® nominee Saoirse Ronan (ATONEMENT, THE LOVELY BONES) and Mark Strong (THE YOUNG VICTORIA, SHERLOCK HOLMES) co-star. Written by Weir and Keith Clarke, the film is Peter's first since 2003's MASTER AND COMMANDER: THE FAR SIDE OF THE WORLD.
