Synopsis

Directed by Joaquin Oristrell, UNCONSCIOUS is a period comedy set in Barcelona in 1913 that questions sexual taboos relevant then.

Heavily pregnant, Alma (Leonor Watling, BAD EDUCATION) is married to psychiatrist Dr. Leon Pardo (Alex Brendemuhl), a follower of the revolutionary Dr Sigmund Freud and his advanced theories about hysteria and sexuality. Returning home one afternoon she finds her husband in a distressed state who then runs out of their home and vanishes without trace.

Enlisting the help of her brother-in-law Salvador (Luis Tosar), who is also a psychiatrist and deeply attracted to Alma, they start to investigate Leon's disappearance their only clue being a manuscript of Leon's about hysteria and female sexuality based on four patients. Following this up their investigation leads them on a trail where hypnosis, love, danger and every imaginable taboo are intertwined.
