Synopsis
Patrick Smash (Bruce Cook) is a boy with an unusual problem and has an incredible capacity to break wind - not only whenever he wants to but also in the most unusual places. At home Patrick's life is becoming more and more difficult despite the efforts of Patrick's father (Victor Maguire), who over the years develops a series of ingenious devices to direct the force of Patrick's farts but he finally forced to admit defeat.
Patrick looks forward to school so he can make some friends but he is taunted by schoolmates , bullied in the playground and his headmistress Miss Rapier (Celia Imbrie) only adds to his unhappiness. Only one boy befriends him who is also singled out for teasing, Alan A Allen (Rupert Grint), a child prodigy with a brilliant scientific brain who is gifted in every sense but one - he has no smell.
They form a firm friendship and while Patrick dreams of becoming a spaceman, Alan sets his sights on becoming a famous inventor. In his laboratory he builds a special outfit for Patrick, a pair of trousers to contain his farts safely, which they christen 'Thunderpants'. Putting together Patrick's ability to fart and Alan's genius, they create a flying machine which harnesses the power of Patrick's wind and enter a non-assisted flight competition.
Together, as a team, Patrick and Alan are lead into a fantastic and dangerous adventure which eventually finds them at the USSC Space Centre. Now, they must embark on a mission in the service of a troubled US Space rocket. Can Patrick and Alan's special gifts help them to fulfill this extraordinary mission and realise their dreams?
