Synopsis

Filmed in black and white, bfi Distribution is re-releasing THE THIRD MAN to mark the centenary of Carol Reed's birth and is the second of Reed's trilogy of films made with Graham Greene.

Harry Lime, who has supposedly died, is the 'third man'. He fakes his own funeral in order to outwit his pursuers in Vienna which has been devastated by World War II. Meanwhile Holly Martins has arrived in post war Vienna at Harry's invitation only to find his friend has died in mysterious circumstances.

Unbeknown to Holly, Harry is trying to continue his racketeering trade in contaminated penicillin aided by sinister acquaintances while Holly has decided to try and unravel the events leading up to Harry's death...
