In the wrong place at the wrong time, Ana has her young son, Jesse (Bobby Coleman) brutally snatched from her during a trip to a supermarket. Taken hostage by addict and robber Saul (Jeremy Renner) when his heist goes disastrously wrong, that is the last time struggling mom Ana sees her son alive, as he is tragically killed in the subsequent police chase.

Alternating between these past tragic events and present day, Ana now finds herself years later travelling to visit Saul and meet him before his life is prematurely ended having been caught, imprisoned and sentenced to execution for his reckless actions that claimed Jesse's young life.
