Synopsis
Set amid the vast expanses of South Mongolia's Gobi Desert, THE STORY OF THE WEEPING CAMEL follows the adventures of a family of camel herders who face a crisis when one mother camel rejects her newborn, following a particularly difficult delivery.
Invoking an ancient ritual, the family sends two of its young boys to the capital city to enlist the aid of a musician whom they believe will coax the mother camel into nursing her baby a journey which brings them into contact with the unfamiliar temptations of the Western world: satellite TV, sweets and shopping!. Apart from reuniting mother and child, the ritual also has the miraculous side effect of causing the mother to weep.
Inspired by the techniques of the legendary filmmaker Robert Flaherty, whose NANOOK OF THE NORTH and MAN OF ARAN remain classics of the documentary tradition, WEEPING CAMEL combines unstaged, unrehearsed sequences with carefully prepared scenes that establish and strengthen the story and themes.
