Synopsis

Two spoiled guys who live with their respective single parents become competitive stepbrothers after their single parents fall in love and marry, making the guys step brothers.

39 year-old Brennan Huff (Will Ferrell) still lives with mom, Nancy (Mary Steenburgen) and has real difficulty holding down a job. Meanwhile 40 year-old Dale Doback (John C Reilly) still lives with his father Robert (Richard Jenkins) and is likewise unemployed but has managed to work even less than Brennan. When their respective parents marry and decide to set up home together, Brennan and Dale are forced to live under the same roof and mayhem ensues.

It's like the clash of the titans, as these two stepbrothers antagonize each other and their parents to extreme. Finally their antics put such an enormous strain on their parents' new marriage that it looks like its heading for a divorce.

In an about turn as they come to their senses, the two stepbrothers devise an unlikely plan to bring their parents back together but to pull this off the bond growing between them may just finally get them out of the house once and for all.
