Synopsis

Based on a true story, THE SPELL tells the story of Jenny, a young girl who finds herself unwanted by either of her separated parents during the formative years of her life and leaves home at the earliest opportunity. However, live-in boyfriend Rick's associations with witchcraft and black magic soon take her down a path which leads to the most horrific experience of her young life. She seeks help from friends, doctors, psychiatrists and religious leaders but finds only scepticism and disbelief. Finally, from within the confines of a mental hospital, she finds the help she needs.

THE SPELL was shot over 4 weeks in July 2008 and completed post-production in March 2009. It is the third feature film from Carey Films. In May 2009, THE SPELL was screened in the Marche du film in Cannes and subsequently secured a theatrical release in the UK through Vue Cinemas. THE SPELL will open in cinemas in the North of England on Friday 18th September following its world premiere in Leeds, West Yorkshire, the city where it was shot. THE SPELL was directed by Crystal Heart Award winning director, Owen Carey Jones and stars Rebecca Pitkin, Pietro Herrera, Amber Hodgkiss, Julia Curle and Laura O'Donoughue.
