Synopsis

Zinos Kazantsakis (co-screenwriter Adam Bousdoukos) is an affable but disorganized restaurant owner, whose regulars are a motley crew of lovable eccentrics. His life destabilises when his girlfriend Nadine Kruger (Pheline Roggan) moves to Shanghai. Zinos misses her so much he follows her, leaving his restaurant to be run by his unreliable ex-con brother Illias (Moritz Bleibtreu - THE BAADER MEINHOF COMPLEX, SPEED RACER) in his absence.

Both decisions will have a catastrophic effect on his life. While Illias gambles away the restaurant to a dishonest real estate agent, Zinos arrives in Shanghai to discover Nadine has already found a new lover...

Directed by Fatih Akin (HEAD-ON and THE EDGE OF HEAVEN). SOUL KITCHEN was Winner of the Special Jury Prize and the Young Cinema Award for Best Film at the Venice Film Festival 2009.
