Synopsis
An extraordinary and ultimately uplifting description by Yehuda Lerner of how as a young man he repeatedly escaped from a series of concentration camps, ending up in Sobibor where on October 14 1943 at precisely 1600 hours he took part in a violent uprising of prisoners against Nazi authorities.
A rebuttal to the dominant mythology of Jewish acquiescence and martyrdom and a revelation of the means by which people turn to extreme violence, the film intercuts Lerner's incredibly detailed and compelling account with contemporary footage of Warsaw, Minsk and Sobibor, the eerily atmospheric autumnal landscapes of which offset the horror of his words.
