Synopsis
From the creators of A KNIGHTS TALE and starring the same key cast Heath Ledger, Mark Addy, and Shannon Sossamon, THE SIN EATER is a supernatural thriller with a clever and original plot that twists and turns with terrifying surprises.
Alex Bernier (Ledger) is a priest sent to investigate the strange death of his mentor Dominic, the leader of an arcane Catholic order known as Carolingians. Dominic's apparent suicide is surrounded in mystery with strange markings found on his chest and the table on which he died.
Alex enlists the help of his fellow Carolingian, Father Thomas (Addy) and troubled friend Mara Sinclair (Sossamon) upon whom he once performed an exorcism. Together they encounter a bizarre underworld in their hunt to track down a legend known only as 'The Sin Eater' (Benno Furmann), an immortal being who absolves the sins of others before they die.
Throughout their journey Alex and his companions are faced with many demons - both supernatural and of their own. Although Alex can use a religious cross to fight away evil spirits, he cannot fight his passion for Mara and their relationship forces him to denounce the priesthood. Drawing closer to the truth, Alex enters the tortured world of THE SIN EATER and realises that the demon's fate lies in his own hands.
The DVD is packaged with extras including a commentary from the Academy Award winning writer and director Brian Helgeland (LA CONFIDENTIAL, MYSTIC RIVER) and 7 deleted scenes.
