Synopsis

Set in the mid 19th century at a Japanese brothel near Fukagawa, Oshin (Nagiko Tono) a young prostitute is warned by the madam of the establishment not to fall in love with any clients. However when a young samurai Fusanosuke (Hidetaka Yoshioka) takes shelter there hiding from a powerful samurai that he wounded and who is now seeking revenge Oshin falls hopelessly in love with Fusanosuke.

When their relationship doesn't last Oshin is heartbroken as Fusanosuke leaves her. Bereft by her loss she's convinced she will never love again until she meets Ryosuke (Masatoshi Nagase). Finding happiness again her life is suddenly thrown into confusion when a violent storm strikes the area and the nearby river and sea levels rise lashing and flooding the surrounding area...
