Synopsis

Mexican Carmelo Muniz is a travelling musician, who migrates to San Francisco with his musical partner Arturo Arias, in search of work to support his family back in Mexico. Through his eyes, the audience watches a migrant tale in reverse, as the film vividly captures why the 60 year-old first chose to leave his beloved family and cross the desert borderlands.

Drifting along the streets of San Francisco from restaurant to restaurant the pair of musicians live a meagre existence from their tips but Carmelo Muniz returns home immediately on learning his mother is seriously ill.

On arrival home Carmelo Muniz sees his family for the first time in many years but cannot sustain himself or his family, so he starts to play again in order to pay for his ticket back to the States.

A feature length documentary, ROMaNTICO was photographed in Super 16mm film.
