Synopsis

The most dangerous and exciting car race in the universe is held only once every five years. And that's tonight. The competitors are line up at the starting block. In his vehicle, JP, the most daredevil driver on the circuit, is ready for the green light. Female driver Sonoshee, with whom he is secretly in love, is also on the starting line. She will stop at nothing to get on that podium.

In this race, not only is anything possible, but also anything is allowed. In fact, their adversaries modified their vehicles to equip them with highly destructive weapons; with such participants, it is hardly surprising that Redline is forbidden by the authorities, who will try anything to halt the proceedings. These speed addicts have to put themselves in mortal danger to achieve their aim: eternal glory for those who finally mount the podium.

REDLINE, the new animation feature by director Takeshi Koike and screenwriter Katsuhito Ishii had it's world premiere on world's finest and most enormous open air cinema Piazza Grande at the 62nd Locarno International Film Festival 2009, in front of 5'000 passionate viewers.

Prior the screening, the film team, including producers Masao Maruyama, Iwase and just married Yukiko Futakata - newly Mrs Takeshi Koike - appeared on stage all gathered by a red ruban-line for the presentation by festival director Frederic Maire.

After five years of production, REDLINE finally emerged in its entirety and demonstrate the potential and new possibilities of 2D animation, amidst the current prominence of 3D animation.

The film is going to be released in Japan during Spring 2010.
