Synopsis
Mike Terry (Chiwetel Ejiofor), a martial arts Jiu-jitsu master, has chosen to run a self defense studio respecting the honorable code of the samurai, rather than the hi-octane but profitable prize fighting circuit. Married to Sondra (Alice Braga) it's a daily struggle to balance the business and make ends meet.
However an unexpected incident at the Academy between an off duty officer Joe Ryan (Max Martini) and a distraught lawyer, Laura Black (Emily Mortimer), changes Terry's life forever when he encounters promoters (Ricky Jay, Joe Mantegna) and movie star, Chet Frank (Tim Allen). Lured by lucrative earnings, Terry reluctantly chooses to step into the ring for the first time, which would enable him to pay off his mounting debts.
Set in the west side Los Angeles fight world, REDBELT stars Chiwetel Ejiofor and Emily Mortimer in David Mamet's tenth film as a writer/director.
