Synopsis
Written by Stephen Susco and based on the novel by Jack Ketchum, a Korean War vet with a tragic past, Avery Allan Ludlow (Brian Cox), lives quietly on his own along with his aging ginger-haired dog, named Red by his late wife, in a small town, where he has a local hardware store.
Out one day, Av and Red are enjoying fishing at their favourite spot when suddenly three boys and a shotgun come along. In an instant, Av's lifelong friend is gone, the victim of a cruel, senseless act that leaves Av devastated.
Helped by Carrie (Kim Dickens), a local reporter, Av starts his own investigation in an attempt to identify who the boys were and expose the truth, but his efforts are ignored by authorities and mocked by the teenagers. The boys' parents - Mr McCormack (Tom Sizemore, a rich local businessman), his wife (Ashley Laurence), and, across town, a hardscrabble laborer Mr Doust (Robert Englund) and his wife (Amanda Plummer) - are just as determined to keep Av down.
But Av is determined in his pursuit of justice...
