Synopsis
Based on Daphne du Maurier's international bestseller, REBECCA centres around Maxim de Winter (Laurence Olivier), a wealthy widower who remarries a younger woman (Joan Fontaine) after the tragic and untimely death of his first wife Rebecca a year ago.
He returns to his Cornish estate Manderlay with his new wife but she finds that Rebecca still seems to have an unnerving hold on his staff in this suspense thriller.
Earning Alfred Hitchcock his only Academy Award for Best Picture, REBECCA was the director's first Hollywood film and his also first collaboration with producer David O Selznick (GONE WITH THE WIND).
