Synopsis

The panic room, a chamber built as a sanctuary, consisting of four concrete walls, a buried phone line separate to the house's main line, its own ventilation system and a bank of surveillance monitors that covers nearly every corner of the house plus an impenetrable door made of thick steel - is for safety's sake the best place to be if a break-in occurs.

Having recently moved into their New York brownstone equipped with a panic room, newly divorced Meg Altman (Jodie Foster) and her young daughter Sarah (Kristen Stewart) seek refuge there when this happens.

Trapped in their New York brownstone's panic room, Meg and Sarah play a deadly game of cat-and-mouse with three intruders - Burnham (Forest Whitaker), Raoul (Dwight Yoakam) and Junior (Jared Leto) - during a brutal home invasion. But the room itself is the focal point because what the intruders really want is inside it.
