Synopsis

Suspicious minds and autumnal romance cross paths in this Brazilian film from director Marcos Bernstein. THE OTHER SIDE OF THE STREET, Marcos Bernstein's debut feature film, stars Fernanda Montenegro, best actress Silver Bear at Berlin for CENTRAL STATION, for which she was also nominated for an Oscar and a Golden Globe as best actress.

In THE OTHER SIDE OF THE STREET Fernanda Montenegro plays a lonely 65 year-old woman, Regina, who fills her empty existence by providing small services to the police where she works on the neighborhood watch in Copacabana and believes she has witnessed a murder in the building across the street. She ends up getting involved with the crime suspect, Camargo, a retired judge played by the great Brazilian actor Raul Cortez (TO THE LEFT OF THE FATHER). She then becomes embroiled in a potentially dangerous chain of events that will force her to take stock of her life in a way that she could never have imagined.

The film's scenario is Copacabana, now a popular neighborhood among the elderly, where the architectural marks of the past stand alongside social violence and urban chaos borders the legendary Copacabana beach.
