Synopsis
ON THE ROAD is director Walter Salles' long-awaited adaptation of Jack Kerouac's great American novel that defined a generation.
After the death of his father, Sal Paradise (Sam Riley), an aspiring New York writer, meets Dean Moriarty (Garrett Hedlund), a young and dangerously seductive ex-con. They hit it off immediately. Determined not to get trapped in a narrow life, the two friends burn their bridges and hit the road: thirsting for freedom, they discover the world, others and themselves.
Alongside Sam Riley (BRIGHTON ROCK, CONTROL), Garrett Hedlund (TRON: LEGACY) and Kristen Stewart (THE TWILIGHT SAGA films), the cast also includes Amy Adams (THE FIGHTER), Tom Sturridge (THE BOAT THAT ROCKED), Elisabeth Moss (MAD MEN), Alice Braga (BLINDNESS), Terrence Howard (IRON MAN, HUSTLE AND FLOW), Kirsten Dunst (MELANCHOLIA, SPIDER-MAN), Viggo Mortensen (A DANGEROUS METHOD, THE ROAD), and Steve Buscemi (BOARDWALK EMPIRE, FARGO).
Walter Salles is reunited with co-writer Jose Rivera, following their collaboration on THE MOTORCYCLE DIARIES. The film is produced by Marin Karmitz, Nathanaël Karmitz, Charles Gillibert and Rebecca Yeldham and co-financed by Film4 with Tessa Ross as one of the executive producers on the film.
