Synopsis
NINE unites an all star cast with the man behind CHICAGO, director Rob Marshall. Inspired by Federico Fellini's autobiographical and award winning film 8 ½, NINE's multi award-winning cast is lead by Daniel Day-Lewis (THERE WILL BE BLOOD, GANGS OF NEW YORK), who is surrounded by a sizzling line up of leading ladies, Penelope Cruz (VICKY CRISTINA BARCELONA), Nicole Kidman (THE HOURS, THE GOLDEN COMPASS), Kate Hudson (ALMOST FAMOUS, BRIDE WARS), Stacy Ferguson (Black Eyed Peas), Marion Cotillard (LA VIE EN ROSE, PUBLIC ENEMIES), Judi Dench (SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE) and Sophia Loren (TWO WOMEN).
NINE is a vibrant and provocative big-screen spectacle that follows the life of world famous film director Guido Contini (Daniel Day-Lewis) as he reaches a creative and personal crisis of epic proportion, while balancing the numerous women in his life including his wife (Marion Cotillard), his mistress (Penelope Cruz), his film star muse (Nicole Kidman), his confidant and costume designer (Judi Dench), an American fashion journalist (Kate Hudson), his glamorous courtesan (Stacy Ferguson) and his mother (Sophia Loren).
At the helm of the award winning creative team is director, producer and choreographer Rob Marshall (CHICAGO) and producers Mark Platt (WICKED, LEGALLY BLONDE) and Harvey Weinstein. The original screenplay was written by the late Anthony Minghella (THE READER, COLD MOUNTAIN). The film features a score from the original 1982 Broadway production of NINE, which featured music and lyrics by Maury Yeston, and won five Tony Awards including Best Musical.
