Synopsis

An aging ex-con with a passion for trains is released from jail in Ireland and moves into digs with a middle-aged woman and her mother. Whilst tentatively striking up a relationship with his lonely landlady, the timid train-lover finds unfinished business from his previous career is coming back to haunt him.

Although NIGHT TRAIN has a thriller sub-plot that keeps the story moving swiftly along, the film is primarily about the awkward and tender romance that develops between the two people who, after living lives of frustration and disappointment, have a last-grasp chance of happiness. An impressive directorial debut from John Lynch , NIGHT TRAIN mainly succeeds because of the talents of its lead actors, John Hurt, Brenda Blethyn.
