Synopsis

Have you ever wanted to relive your childhood and do things differently?

A docu-fantasia from director Guy Maddin (THE SADDEST MUSIC IN THE WORLD), MY WINNIPEG winds its way though the birthplace of personal mythologies, attempting to understand the nature of memory.

Equal parts mystical reflections and personal history, city chronicle and deranged post-Freudian proletarian fantasy, MY WINNIPEG blends local myth with childhood trauma. All narrated by Guy Maddin's usual entertaining and inspired energy.

Starring B-movie icon Ann Savage as his domineering mother in attempt to answer the opening question, the film was commissioned by Lionsgate Vice President Michael Burns who serves as executive producer and inspired Guy Maddin to return to his roots exploring the spell of his home town. By mixing animation, archive and re-enactments he has created an extraordinary visual homage in true individual Guy Maddin style.
