Synopsis

Yvan (Yvan Attal), a young sports writer is married to Charlotte (Charlotte Gainsbourg), a successful Paris-based actress. Being a celebrity Charlotte attracts a lot of attention wherever they go but it does enable them to dine at exclusive restaurants - only if Charlotte makes the booking though! Yet despite this they try to lead as normal a life as possible and her success does threaten and challenge Yvan's male ego but he normally takes it all in his stride. That is until a stranger at a bar asks him if he ever feels any jealousy when he sees his wife making love to another actor on screen. This hadn't bothered him much before but it sets him thinking and he finds this question more and more perturbing as doubt starts to creep in...

When Charlotte leaves to start work on a film in London with handsome older actor John (Terence Stamp), Yvan becomes convinced that the feelings from their on-screen romance will spill over into an affair. He cannot help but continually make snide remarks about John, as he tries in vain to control his jealousy about his wife's relationship with her co-star. Eventually, Yvan's insecurity and continual questioning begins to threaten their relationship.

Ma Femme Est Une Atrice is a humorously-written peek behind the curtain of celebrity, with genuine chemistry between Charlotte and Yvan, who are also married in real life. The film was nominated for two Cesar Awards in 2002 for Best First Work (Yvan Attal) and Best Supporting Actress (Noemie Lvovsky).
