Synopsis

Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson (THERE WILL BE BLOOD), THE MASTER stars Philip Seymour Hoffman as Lancaster Dodd, a man who forms his own religious movement during the 1950s. Along with his wife, Mary Ann Dodd (Amy Adams) and his young-but-troubled protege, Freddie Sutton (Joaquin Phoenix) who becomes his right hand man, the movie is set in the 1950s when the religious cult is founded.

THE MASTER is rumoured to be a thinly veiled look at the life of Scientology founder L Ron Hubbard.
