Synopsis

THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE is a political suspense classic about the drug-hypnosis-induced behaviour that transforms a US Army hero into a human time bomb starring Frank Sinatra, Laurence Harvey, Janet Leigh and Angela Lansbury and directed by John Frankenheimer.

When a US Army squad escapes captivity from Korea during the 1950's ongoing war, Sgt Raymond Shaw (Laurence Harvey), the son of US Senator John Yerkes Iselin (James Gregory) and Mrs Iselin (Angela Lansbury), receives a hero's welcome for saving his men's lives. His homecoming though is marred by his parents using his triumphant return for their own political gain, which only heightens tensions within the family, especially with his ambitious mother.

Meanwhile another fellow US Army officer, Major Bennett Marco (Frank Sinatra) is suffering reoccurring, vivid nightmares that casts suspicion on Shaw and causes the military to investigate further. These investigations expose an audacious political conspiracy directly implicating Shaw's involvement and Marco, in a race against the clock, seems the only person able to avert disaster.
