Synopsis
The doo-wop sound was the 'in' music for teenagers from 1956-1964. Hundreds of groups sprang up from the streets, parks and subways of New York, Philadelphia and Chicago. In 1964 "Vinnie and the Dreamers" were one such group, whose 16 year old lead singer Vince Pirelli had his teenage fans going wild when performing.
But now more than thirty years later, Vince (Armand Assante) is 50, tending bar in a trendy Bay Ridge Bistro and playing weddings and bar mitzvahs with The Vic Spidero (Joe Grifasi) Band. A widower for 10 years, Vince wants no part of the old days. His life revolves around his children - Anthony (Edoardo Ballerini), a rising musical star, Tommy (David Vadim), a NYPD cop and Tina (Christy Romano), his 14 year old daughter who is battling leukemia. When he meets Tina's nurse, Joanne (Diane Venora), Vince is instantly attracted, tempted but cautious, his priority is for his daughter to get better.
With Tina's condition improving, Vince's old buddies from The Dreamers take him for a night out to Atlantic City where after a lot of drinking and soul searching the group re-unite and a new confident Vince returns home to start a new life, proposing to Joanne and three months later "Vinnie and the Dreamers" perform "Looking For An Echo" a new song which embraces their past and celebrates the future. It is the rejuvenation of Vince Pirelli's life... It is his moment...
