Synopsis
A comedy/drama, LATE AUTUMN from Japanese filmmaker Yasujiro Ozu, was made just three years before his death. A piece about parenthood, 'difficult' children and marriage prospects, the film stars Setsuko Hara as a Akiko Miwa, a widow living in Tokyo whose strong willed, grown-up daughter Ayako (YOko Tsukasa) is determined to stay single. It is the actions of their well meaning but interfering friends when they attempt to find suitable partners for both women that cause mother and daughter strife, leading to misunderstandings and arguments.
