Synopsis

Directed by French New Wave director Eric Rohmer, THE LADY AND THE DUKE is a period drama set in Paris during the French Revolution and based on a true story written by Grace Elliot (Lucy Russell), a feisty Scottish woman who is caught up in the French Revolution.

She is a royalist and mistress of the Duc de L'Orleans (Jean-Claude Dreyfus). Choosing to stay rather than escape back to Britain she keeps an account of her life while she is under house arrest in Paris and as mistress to the Duc, a cousin of King Louis XIV.
