Synopsis

Set in 17th century France during the reign of King Louis XIV, THE KING IS DANCING follows the rise of the king (played by Benoît Magimel), from a shy monarch to the powerful Sun King through dancing. The period drama extravaganza by director Gerard Corbiau is recounted in flashback by the court composer, Lully (Boris Terral), who in conjunction with the poet / playwright Moliere (Tcheky Karyo) devised the lavishly stylised and highly choreographed ballets that the prince took the lead role in and made him famous for cementing his hold on France despite internal instability within his country.
