Synopsis

Johanna (Orsi Tóth), a young morphine addict, falls into a deep coma in an accident, but doctors miraculously manage to save her from near death. Touched by divine grace, Johanna becomes a nurse in the hospital and cures patients by offering them her body.

However a young doctor frustrated by her rejection of him, teams up with other hospital staff, infuriated by her sexual 'healing'. They wage war against her, but grateful patients join forces to protect her.

She is mad.
She is deranged.
Johanna is guilty.
Johanna is a whore.

Young Hungarian director Kornel Mundruczó tests the limits of his ambition with a modern operatic interpretation of the Passion of Joan of Arc. The already intense drama of this loose reworking of the Joan of Arc story is heightened by the powerfully sung dialogue.
