Synopsis
Tim Allen (Home Improvement, The Santa Claus) plays Joe, a good-natured guy plodding through a thankless job and an unhappy divorce. Working as a video specialist at a Minneapolis pharmaceutical company, Joe is regularly passed over for a long-promised promotion. Things take a turn for the worse when Joe brings his daughter Natalie (Hayden Panettiere, Ally McBeal) to the office with him on 'Bring Your Daughter To Work Day'. Humiliated at the loss of his cherished and hard earned personal parking space, Joe is made a mockery of in front of Natalie and his colleagues by office bully Mark McKinney (Patrick Warburton).
The incident sends Joe into deep despair but following a visit from the company's 'wellness co-ordinator' Meg Harper (Julie Bowen), he decides it's time to embark on a quest for redemption ... or at the very least a rematch with Mark! The first step: martial arts instruction from Chuck Scarett (Jim Belushi), a washed up "B" action star who ultimately gives Joe much more than karate lessons.
Next: a makeover that includes a new hairstyle and a new wardrobe. Joe's plans reap unexpected dividends: As news spreads of the rematch, he makes an unexpected ascent up the corporate ladder. He finds his new found promotion, popularity and corporate perks intoxicating, but daughter Natalie makes it clear she liked her dad the way he was, not this new and improved version.
Also unimpressed with Joe's transformation is Meg who is starting to fall for the real Joe, much to the dislike of jealous boss Jeremy (Greg Germann, Ally McBeal). As the showdown with the once-feared colleague nears, Joe is determined to show Meg, Natalie everybody that this one-time nobody is now a somebody to be reckoned with!
