Synopsis
JAR CITY aka Myrin is a gripping and intriguing crime thriller, unearthing a cold case murder which shockingly reveals secrets of a genetic defect running through an entire community. Expertly shot by Icelandic director Baltasar Kormakur and with a clever intertwining narrative.
Set against the unforgiving landscape of Iceland Inspector Erlendur () is called on to investigate a murder, whilst searching the crime scene he discovers a lead; a photograph of a young girl's grave.
Following this only clue, Erlendur and his team discover that many years ago the victim was accused, though not convicted, of a horrible crime and as the investigation escalates a far darker and more sinister case is uncovered.
Within the same small community Örn (Atli Rafn Sigurðsson) is mourning the death of his four-year-old daughter, lost to a rare congenital disease with a fierceness that borders on obsession, these seemingly unrelated story lines weave together with calculated precision.
JAR CITY is an understated, superbly shot piece and an engaging dual narrative thriller which culminates in an unforgettable and thought-provoking finale.
