Synopsis

A documentary from German filmmaker Philip Gröning on the monks of the Grande Chartreuse Monastery, located high in the French Alps. As a young filmmaker, Philip Gröning approached the monks, who mostly lived under a vow of silence, to request permission to make a documentary of their lives and faith. Sixteen years later they replied and this film is the result detailing the life of a closed religious order away from the noise and chaos of the modern world.
