Synopsis

Spanish director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo has fashioned an enigmatic tale of four people...lives intertwined by destiny...subject to the laws of fate...who discover that luck is something they cannot afford to be without as they gamble with the highest stakes possible...in a deadly game from which only one of them will emerge intact.

There is Tomas (Leonardo Sbaraglia), a young thief and the sole survivor of a horrific plane crash, who might represent the only means of vengeance for...

...Federico (Eusebio Poncela), who survived a massive earthquake and discovered he has the power to rob those around him of their good fortune with a touch. He has the Gift. And for years, Federico has been the protege of the God of Chance himself, the seemingly untouchable...

...Sam (Max von Sydow), the ultimate survivor, who lost everything but his own life in the terrible conflagration that enveloped Europe during the Second World War. Sam now runs a lucrative casino, a beacon of flashing lights in a barren lava field, with Federico's assistance. When Federico declares independence from their partnership, he's cast out of paradise by Sam and stripped of his ability to steal other's luck. Seeking to return and challenge the Master at his own game, Federico links up with Tomas, who is being investigated by...

...Sara (Mónica López), a policewoman who walked away from a car crash that killed her family and becomes obsessed with uncovering the truth behind a clandestine gambling ring where death and luck intermingle.

As Tomas and Federico make their way back toward the Casino to challenge Sam, they must first embark on a desperate odyssey of initiation, a bizarre series of trials and challenges with others like them. With Sara in pursuit, their paths are destined to intersect at a crossroads in which the most lethal game yet is played...and where the usual rules do not apply.
