Synopsis

Legendary film director Donald Baines (Kirk Douglas) lies dying alone in his private screening room. Having isolated himself from family and friends, he now regrets many personal sacrifices. His rejection of his illegitimate child, Christopher (Michael A Goorjian), whom he has seen only once in 30 years, brings him the most pain.

Late one night, Donald is awakened by Stan (Ron Marasco), a favorite editor who has been dead more than 35 years. Suddenly Donald finds his deathbed magically transported to an old movie house. Stan informs Donald that he has come to help and that he will show him three films - three visions - each vision representing a different period of Christopher's life.

The first vision brings Donald into the teenage life of Christopher who is in the throes of his first blush with love. A rebel and romantic, Christopher proclaims his love for Isabelle (Karen Tucker), a girl he has only seen from afar and chances it all for an opportunity to spend some time with her. A nagging voice, which sounds like the father he never knew, echoes in his head telling him he is not worthy.

The second vision introduces us to Christopher as a 20-something Goth promoter who works for a rich, indulgent "performance artist." Sent on the impossible mission of finding a woman the "artiste" passed in the street, Christopher meets Isabelle again for the first time since their one and only kiss. The passion is still there but circumstances again pull these unlikely lovers apart.

The last vision reveals Christopher, recently released from jail, looking for Isabelle at her last known address. He believes that she has married and decides to leave town. Isabelle tries and fails to find him and as he is about to be killed by an angry thug, the reel ends.

Donald is beside himself, wanting to save his son but can he do anything at all? Or is this all ... Illusion?
