Synopsis

ILLEGAL TENDER is an action packed, gun filled, thriller fuelled by family ties and gangster feuds. The combined forces of Academy Award Nominee John Singleton (Four Brothers, Hustle & Flow) and writer/director Franc Reyes (Empire) has produced a gripping story of a Latino mother and son in a quest for honor and revenge.

Set in Puerto Rico, ILLEGAL TENDER tells the story of a close knit Latino family whose lives are shattered when husband, father and criminal mastermind, Wilson, is murdered by a gang over a bitter feud. Having witnessed the horrific murder widower Millie flees with her two sons to rebuild her life and do her best for her family.

Years on, Millie dotes on her eldest son Wilson Junior, a bright, exceptional student and a loving son and boyfriend. Suspicious of his mother's sudden strange behavior Wilson begins to probe her about his fathers past.

Suddenly one evening Wilson's world is shattered as he experiences the shock of his life when he discovers his deceased father was murdered by gangsters and that the villains have returned to settle the score, endangering the family and everyone around them.

Having been on the run since the killing and tired of living in fear, protective Millie suggests mother and son turn the tables on their tormentors and end the hunt once and for all. Having never had to stand his ground, Wilson is forced to be strong and defend his family as his dead father would have wished. With Weapons at the ready, Millie and Wilson build the courage to risk their lives to take on the bad guys in a bid to defend Wilson senior's honor and live in peace.
