Synopsis

Nathan (Tim Robbins, THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, ARLINGTON ROAD) is a mild mannered scientist with an ambitious mission. After enduring a strange upbringing due to his parent's obsession with social etiquette, he becomes in turn obsessed with conducting experiments to teach mice table manners! When Lila (Patricia Arquette, STIGMATA, TRUE ROMANCE) another victim of an unhappy past, with a dark secret comes into his life, he falls in love.

Together they discover a man (Rhys Ifans, NOTTING HILL, THE 51ST STATE) who has been living alone in the wilds since childhood. Overriding Lila's objections, Nathan takes him back to his lab to teach him about manners, culture and etiquette, with Nathan's definition of civilisation being "When in doubt, don't do what you really want to do"!

But things get more complicated when Nathan's fetching French assistant (Miranda Otto (LORD OF THE RINGS: THE TWO TOWERS) tries to snare him into romance, and the consequences are hilarious and unexpected!

The first feature film from highly acclaimed visionary director Michel Gondry, who has previously directed videos for Bjork, Kylie Minogue and Massive Attack, Human Nature was written by Charlie Kaufman, author of the critically acclaimed films BEING JOHN MALKOVICH and ADAPTATION. Michel Gondry and Charlie Kaufman have since collaborated on THE ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND starring Jim Carrey, Kate Winslet and Elijah Wood.
