Synopsis

Claire Kubik (Ashley Judd) is a happily married, high powered lawyer, looking to make partner in her firm and trying for a baby with her husband. Everything in her life is perfect until one day her world is turned upside down and illusions of happiness are shattered. Following a break in at their home, her husband Tom (Jim Caviezel) is dramatically arrested by the FBI and charged with murder in the first degree...

Tom is exposed as Ron Chapman, an ex-marine who served in Latin America and for fifteen years has been in hiding after being accused of massacring nine villagers. Convinced of his innocence, Claire vows to defend him even though the military courts are a world away from what she is used to. She enlists the help of Charlie Grimes (Morgan Freeman), an unconventional ex-army attorney, legal wildcard and recovering alcoholic, to help her save the man she loves.

As more clues come to light, it seems the case is just one part of a much larger cover up - but who are the real villains? As Claire and Charlie fight for justice, their attempts to prove Tom has been framed leads them to the highest ranks within the military. With nearly all witnesses to the massacre conveniently dead, the military becomes increasingly intimidating as Claire struggles to protect her husband, her career and her life.

Directed by Carl Franklin and adapted from the novel by Joseph Finder, HIGH CRIMES is an edgy action-packed thriller, full of twists and turns, right up to the heart pounding finale.
