Synopsis
A crisp thriller set in the mudflats of Suffolk, Roy Tunt (Alex MacQueen) is a fanatical birder quite at home in his isolated bird-hide lying in wait for a sighting of the elusive plover. With his shortwave radio, packed-lunch and a portrait of his ex-wife Sandra for company, Roy's isolation is shattered abruptly by the intrusion of a bedraggled stranger. Unshaven, edgy and bloodied the stranger introduces himself as Dave John (Phil Campbell) - a fugitive from the storm.
After a tense introduction, the two men discover that they have a quite a lot in common as they share sandwiches, tea and personal exchanges, which are frank, poignant and often funny.
However, as the two men begin to form a close bond news of a police manhunt sets them both on edge driving their fragile relationship to a tragic conclusion...
Director Marek Losey (grandson of Joseph Losey - ACCIDENT) ensures his minimal means have maximum impact. THE HIDE was shot by cinematographer George Richmond with ARRIFLEX D-21 film style digital cameras supplied by ARRI Media.
