Synopsis

Inspired by the Jean Pierre Melville classic BOB LE FLAMBEUR, THE GOOD THIEF is a clever caper rich with deception and duplicity. Bob Montagnet (Nick Nolte) lives in the twilight zone of the Nice, France, underworld - a seedy universe blurred by drugs and gambling binges. A casino heist, with the help of his two accomplices Raoul (Gerard Darmon) and Paulo (Said Taghmaoui) might be his only chance to double down.

Bob's friendship with cop Roger (Tcheky Karyo) is stretched to breaking point, and his relationship with club owner Remi (Marc Lavoine) is destroyed when Bob attempts to protect Anne (Nutsa Kukhianidze) from the life of prostitution Remi has pre-ordained. The gang of 'experts', including security genius Vladimir (Emir Kusturica), who Bob hand-picks to execute his two-timing fraud are sucked into the gambler's vortex of fantasy and dreams with both comic and tragic results, especially for 'Judas' drug-dealing Said (Ouassini Embarek). THE GOOD THIEF also features Ralph Fiennes as art dealer and fence Tony Angel.

THE GOOD THIEF is written and directed by Neil Jordan. The film is produced by Stephen Woolley, John Wells and Seaton McLean and financed by Alliance Atlantis.
