Synopsis

The untold story of the birth of the CIA, THE GOOD SHEPHERD is directed by and stars Robert DeNiro. An espionage drama, it chronicles the tumultuous early years of the Central Intelligence Agency.

Edward Wilson (Matt Damon) is a prime candidate for a career in intelligence becoming a member of the secret Skull and Bones brotherhood while a student at Yale University which is a breeding ground for future world leaders. Recruited to work for the OSS (the precursor of the CIA) during World War II he becomes one of the covert founders of the CIA.

As the paranoia of the Cold War steadily increases, Edward's idealism is gradually eroded by a growing suspicious nature reflective of world events. While his methods are adopted and used as the standard operating procedure, Wilson is recognized as one of the Agency's veteran operatives, always relentlessly combating his KGB counterpart.

His total and unerring dedication to his country comes at a personal price though, for neither his wife Clover (Angelina Jolie) or his son can cause Wilson to waver from his path that ultimately requires such total dedication it will force him to sacrifice everything for his job.
