Synopsis

Fanfan (Gerard Philipe) is a young peasant who avoids the entrapment of a quick marriage by enlisting in King Louis XV's (Marcel Herrand) army. He then saves the king's daughter Princess Henriette from highwaymen and is decorated for his valour. Meanwhile a phony gipsy girl (Gina Lollobrigida) has foreseen the future and predicts he will marry Princesss Henriette. Fanfan sets out to complete his destiny.

FANFAN LA TULIPE is a swashbuckling romantic 18th century period drama which won him the Best Director Award at Cannes. It is filmed in black and white and re-released on a new 35mm print featuring new subtitles by Lenny Borger.
