Synopsis

Based in Britain during World War II, ENIGMA tells two stories in one. The first follows British codebreaker Tom Jericho's (Dougray Scott) mission to hunt down his missing lover Claire Romilly (Saffron Burrows) with the help of her close friend. Hester Wallace (Kate Winslett). The second is about Tom's team of codebreakers who must try and crack the Nazis' complex Enigma code before an Allied convoy is destroyed by U-boats in the North Atlantic.

During World War II the codebreakers were based at Bletchley Park, England and the German armed forces top secret codes were broken there, providing the allies with vital infomation towards their war effort.

The screenplay is adapted from Robert Harris' thriller by Tom Stoppard. ENGIMA is directed by Michael Apted and produced by Mick Jagger and Lorne Michaels.
