Synopsis
Daniel Bruhl (GOOD BYE, LENIN!) stars in THE EDUKATORS, a witty and refreshing take on the clash between youthful idealism and middle-aged conservatism. THE EDUKATORS is the first German-language film in over a decade to be selected for the Cannes competition.
Currently shooting in Barcelona opposite Peter Mullan in CARGO, Bruhl recently appeared as the young castaway with Dames Judi Dench and Maggie Smith in Charles Dance's LADIES IN LAVENDER and was voted Jameson People's Choice Best European Actor for LOVE IN THOUGHTS at the European Film Academy Awards.
Three young friends, Jan (Daniel Bruhl), Peter (Stipe Erceg) and Jule (Julia Jentsch), are united by a passionate commitment to change the world. Unknown to Jule, her boyfriend and his best mate are a two-man underground cell, 'The Edukators'. Their crusading zeal, however, doesn't extend to smashing the state. Instead, Jan and Peter express their political views by breaking into the homes of the wealthy and rearranging the furniture. They leave notes ("You have too much money") but nothing is stolen and no one gets hurt. When one of their anarchic interior decorating missions goes awry, the trio is forced to raise the revolutionary stakes. Kidnapping a rich entrepreneur and retreating to a mountain hideaway, they come face to face with the values of the generation in power...
THE EDUKATORS is the second feature by Austrian-born director Hans Weingartner, a neuroscientist who says, "In my early 20s, I was an angry young man. I wanted world revolution but I couldn't find anyone to join me...."
In addition to Bruhl, THE EDUKATORS cast includes up-and-coming German stars Julia Jentsch (winner of the Best Actress prize at this year's Berlin Film Festival for SOPHIE SCHOLL) and Stipe Erceg.
