Synopsis

Director Manuel de Oliveira's latest film is adapted from a story by Eça de Queiros.

ECCENTRICITIES OF A BLONDE-HAIRED GIRL reveals the trials and tribulations of Macario's (Ricardo Trepa) lovelife. Recounting his life story to a woman passenger he meets on a train, Macario tell this complete stranger how he falls for a young, blonde who lived opposite his uncle's Lisbon shop.

Swept up in a whirlwind romance he immediately wants to marry her, and causes a rift in his family as his uncle is against this liaison. Feeling the wrath of his uncle, who not only fires him but also shows him the door at the family home, Macario has no other choice but to leave.

Macario travels to Cape Verde where he subsequently makes his fortune. Finally winning his uncle's approval to marry his beloved, he then discovers the "singularity" of his fiancee's character.
